Triovest Shows Sustainability Leadership at HOOPP LEAP Awards with Five Wins

Triovest received five awards at the sixth-annual Leadership in Environmental Advancement Program (“LEAP”) Awards from Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (“HOOPP”). The awards ceremony was held on June 8th at One York, a new mixed-use development located close to Toronto’s Union Station that targets LEED® Platinum certification.

“Triovest sincerely appreciates HOOPP’s recognition at the sixth-annual LEAP Awards,” said Alan MacKenzie, President, Triovest. “These achievements reflect the hard work of our people, and are supported by our clients, tenants, and suppliers. HOOPP’s recognition inspires our team to live our mission of creating sustainable places that enhance communities and enrich relationships.”

Triovest received five awards for excellence:

1. LEAP Forward Pitch – Low-Carbon and Renewable Energy Strategy
The purpose of the LEAP Forward Pitch is to identify innovative sustainability ideas, fund pilot projects, and scale successful solutions across the portfolio. The transition to a clean energy economy is in full stride in Canada and around the world. A transition strategy to minimize risk and capture opportunity needs to be at the core of how organizations like HOOPP, Triovest and other management partners address this situation in real estate – our proposed evaluation framework and process will do exactly this.

2. Low-Energy Leader (Large Building) Award – ATCO Centre, Edmonton
This award recognizes the commercial property (larger than 250,000 sf) with the lowest energy-use intensity (ekWh/sf, normalized). ATCO Centre achieved normalized energy performance of 16.6 ekWh/sf (17.7 ekWh/sf, actual), in part by completing LED lighting retrofits and removing excess lighting. This is the third year in a row that ATCO Centre has received this honour.

3. Water Winner (Office) Award – Eau Claire Place, Calgary
This award recognizes the properties with the best overall water performance. Eau Claire Place achieved a HOOPP office portfolio-leading 2016 water-use intensity of 35 L/sf.

4. Sustainability Achiever – ATB Place, Edmonton
This award recognizes the office property that demonstrated best overall achievement across HOOPP’s 13 Pillar Scorecard indicators, and collaborated with HOOPP and tenants to drive sustainability performance. ATB Place achieved the highest overall score, reflecting the breadth and depth of sustainability performance at this LEED® EB:O&M Gold certified large office complex in the heart of Edmonton.

5. Tenant Leader Award (Industrial) – DIRTT Environmental Solutions, Starfield Building 1 and 2, Calgary
This award recognizes the tenant that has been most instrumental in improving property performance and has motivated property managers, HOOPP and/or other tenants to also take action. DIRTT sets the bar for sustainability performance in the renovation/construction industry, and in 2015 was the winner of the Canada Green Building Council’s “Product of the Year” award. DIRTT’s Green Learning Centre and property-level collaboration with Triovest are improving performance and delivering results.

Special recognition goes to our teams in Alberta for their hard work and commitment to Triovest’s sustainability initiatives.
