Eastgate Square Wins Marketing Award at ICSC

NEW YORK, September 19, 2013 – The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), in keeping with its long standing tradition of recognizing and honouring the shopping centre industry’s most cutting-edge, innovative solutions and creative responses to market trends, as well as outstanding examples of retail store design announced its award recipients for the 2013 Canadian Shopping Centre Global Awards programs. As part of this exclusive shopping centre awards competition, ICSC is pleased to announce Eastgate Square located in Stoney Creek, Ontario, has been awarded a 2013 Maple Leaf Silver Award in this annual awards competition for its “Eastgate Salutes Declaration of the War of 1812 Bi- Centennial” campaign.

On June 15th, 2012, a special moment in Stoney Creek’s history was forever captured as Eastgate Square celebrated the official Bicentennial of the Declaration of War of 1812. In addition to many exciting activities throughout the mall, including a reproduction of an 1812 wedge tent and re-enactments, a time capsule was dedicated to be opened on June 18th, 2062 to mark the 250th Anniversary.

Professional recognition for this program was given to the following individuals; Barbara Miele, Marketing Director, Eastgate Square; Rick Saker, General Manager, Eastgate Square; Barbara Bees, Vice President, Retail Operations, Triovest Realty Advisors Inc.; Denis and Rosanne Orban, Proprietors, Orban and Associates; and Susan Ramsey, Curator, Battlefield House Museum.

The 2013 ICSC Canadian Shopping Centre Awards competition are designed to recognize outstanding achievements in marketing, design and development of retail properties and retail store design. The awards were open to shopping centre owners, developers, management companies, architects and designers, and retailers. For entries in the marketing and new media categories, the majority of the program must have been implemented between January 1, 2012 and May 31, 2013. Within the marketing category, shopping centres which have designed and implemented the most successful marketing programs and initiatives that added to a shopping centre’s or company’s bottom line are honoured. Successful projects such as advertising campaigns, cause related marketing programs, public relations programs, grand openings, expansions, and renovations, sales promotions, and business-to-business type efforts and initiatives are recognized within this category.

Awards were given to shopping centres that are less than 150,000 square feet of total retail space; between 150,001 and 400,000 sq. ft. of total retail space; between 400,001 and 750,000 sq. ft. of total retail space; between 750,001 and 1,000,000 sq. ft. of total retail space; more than 1,000,000 sq. ft. of total retail space; a company/corporate initiative, joint centre effort; and mixed use project.

ICSC announced the winners of the 2013 ICSC Canadian Shopping Centre Awards during an awards ceremony at ICSC’s Canadian Convention in Toronto, Ontario. In addition, all 2013 Maple Leaf Gold winners are automatically eligible to win ICSC’s VIVA Best of the Best Award. The ICSC VIVA Best of the Best Awards, which recognize the shopping centre industry’s most cutting-edge properties, innovative solutions and creative responses to market trends, throughout the world, will be presented during ICSC’s annual convention, RECon, May 18, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nev.
